For fans of Braedyn Murphy, the wait is almost over. “Sacrifice,” the third book in the Daughters of Lilith series, will be released on January 31, 2014.

Beautiful artwork. Though I have not yet read this series, I love the look of this character and hope she is as strong and kick ass as this covers depicts her. It took me a couple of looks to actually see the wings in the background. Very subtle and very cool!

Kacey Cleary’s whole life imploded four years ago in a drunk-driving accident. Now she’s working hard to bury the pieces left behind—all but one. Her little sister, Livie. Kacey can swallow the constant disapproval from her born-again aunt Darla over her self-destructive lifestyle; she can stop herself from going kick-boxer crazy on Uncle Raymond when he loses the girls’ college funds at a blackjack table. She just needs to keep it together until Livie is no longer a minor, and then they can get the hell out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

But when Uncle Raymond slides into bed next to Livie one night, Kacey decides it’s time to run. Armed with two bus tickets and dreams of living near the coast, Kacey and Livie start their new lives in a Miami apartment complex, complete with a grumpy landlord, a pervert upstairs, and a neighbor with a stage name perfectly matched to her chosen “profession.” But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle all of them. What she can’t handle is Trent Emerson in apartment 1D.

Kacey doesn’t want to feel. She doesn’t. It’s safer that way. For everyone. But sexy Trent finds a way into her numb heart, reigniting her ability to love again. She starts to believe that maybe she can leave the past where it belongs and start over. Maybe she’s not beyond repair.

But Kacey isn’t the only one who’s broken. Seemingly perfect Trent has an unforgiveable past of his own; one that, when discovered, will shatter Kacey’s newly constructed life and send her back into suffocating darkness.

Not only does this YA novel sound really interesting (already added it to my to-read list!) but this cover is gorgeous.  Even if I hadn't read the book blurb, this would have certainly caught my eye.  Love the colors and the font. I find the result very soothing, and yet mysterious.  That mask certainly makes those eyes pop in her already mysterious 'Mona Lisa' type look.

I look forward to reading about all the secrets housed in the minds of Caitlyn's fellow schoolmates.

What do you think of this cover? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Netgalley Review - Pretty Dark Nothing, by Heather L. Reid

One of the awesome perks of being a blogger is to be able to read novels for review, sometimes before they are even released.  The whole idea of Netgalley made me crazy, and I picked up more than I could handle. One of my New Year resolutions is to give priority to these novels waiting for me.

Itty Bitties! - Camp Cauldron & Pinpoint

The first Itty Bittie post for 2014!! This year I hope to give a bit more attention to the little reads out there. I have read some pretty good ones in the last year and hope to discover a lot more.

18370253Title: Camp Cauldron
Author: Juli Alexander
Release Date: December 8, 2013
Source: Amazon Purchase
Purchase: Amazon - Only $0.94 as of this post!

Forced to spend Spring Break as a counselor at a camp for troublesome young witches instead of drooling over hotties at the beach, Emma relinquishes her hopes for romance. Could the perfect guy be waiting in the midst of poison ivy, s'mores, elephant trunks, and kangaroo feet?

Though I haven't read the novel series, I picked this short story on Amazon during a free promotion. It was fun and magical! (Excuse the pun.)

Though only about 30 pages, the author crammed enough character and plot development to make this story feel longer and full bodied.  There were some fun moments where kids worked magic they weren't supposed to and suffered the consequences and also a little YA romance thrown in.

It was a fun short read, and though I am not a huge fan of stories of young teens and magic, I did enjoy this. Picking or not picking up the series would only be a matter of preference in genres, vs whether the author did a good job in writing this little piece. If I was more into this type of story I wouldn't hesitate to read on.  But if you are interested in YA with magic thrown in, I would definitely recommend giving the series and this author a go!

13043990Title: PinPoint
Series: Hunted - Bonus Short Story
Author: Cheryl Rainfield
Publisher: Sun and Rain Press
Release Date: November 9, 2011
Source: Amazon Purchase
Purchase: Amazon - Only $0.99 as of this post
Teen telepath Caitlyn "overhears" someone planning to set another student up as a Para--something that could cost that student their home, their family, and even their life. Caitlyn is in a race against time to help protect another student, who might, after all, be a Para. Enjoy this free bonus short story for readers of HUNTED that gives you a glimpse into Caitlyn's world...

Since reading 'Scars' by Cheryl Rainfield through Netgalley, I have been fascinated with this writer and her novels. Since then, I have read and reviewed a few of her books and enjoyed each one.

This bonus short story is not necessarily a companion to the actual series, but felt more like a moment in time during school for Caitlyn when she overhears the thoughts of someone that is planning some humiliating harm to another student.

Super short, but true to the characters in the actual novels, this was a likeable read.  If you haven't read 'Hunted' you may be a little lost, since the bonus short story doesn't give you much, if any, background to the characters or preceding events.

Duncan, by Teresa Gabelman

Hi everyone!

Man - it feels like it's been an eternity since I've been able to finish a book that doesn't have 12 words per page and a picture of a barn and animals that go moo, baa and quack.  But finally I was able to finish Duncan.  And I am SO GLAD that I did!!

Leader of the VC Warriors Cincinnati branch, Duncan Roark, has devoted his long life to the Warriors he calls brothers and the Vampire Council, protecting innocents of both the vampire and human race. Things change suddenly when it is ordered that he and his fellow Warriors train human Social Workers to protect themselves in their new world of vampires. Falling in love with a human was something Duncan never thought possible, but love her he did. Now instead of being the ruthless leader he was trained to be, his focus has turned to finding the woman he loved and let go.

Pam Braxton is outgoing and loves her job working with children, but when she realizes her live in boyfriend, Kenny Lawrence, has been using her and her job for his illegal activities, she becomes withdrawn, and her world is turned upside down. Deciding to take matters into her own hands, she stays, trying to learn more of his betrayal so she could see him punished. That decision sucks her deeper into a relationship that has turned dangerous and abusive. Overhearing a plot that would put everyone she cares about at risk, she finds the courage to try to stop the monster who has threatened her friends and the man she truly loves. Now Pam is on the run, alone and with a secret that could change the already unbalanced world of vampires and humans.

As Duncan searches for Pam, the threat of losing his leadership role has the other Warriors worried, but their loyalty for Duncan is strong and they stand behind him. Duncan’s search is relentless; he knows he is not the only one looking for Pam. Even with his responsibilities slipping, he puts it all on the line to find the only woman he has ever loved. In a race against time, Duncan fights to find Pam before her past catches up to her. The Warrior’s path is clear: Find the woman he loves
before the past finds her first.

Random Reads - January 2014 Pick!

Random Reads is hosted by I'm Loving Books, and for a reader that has a list that is way too long, this meme is perfect. It helps me to pick out a novel in the list that may be sitting there forgotten for a long while.

This meme is pretty simple. The idea is to pick one random book (or more if you are ambitious) out of your Goodreads To-Read list (or any other list you maintain using Random.org) to read within the month.

My December Random Read was In the Window Room, by Steven J. Carroll . You can read the review by clicking on the book link above. It was definitely not my most favorite read of 2013, or my favorite random pick novel either. But it's one more off the list. You win some, you lose some.

So what am I looking forward to this January?

After a nightmarish encounter with a werewolf, seventeen-year-old Adria Dawson loses her sister, but gains the love of a mysterious young man and his legendary family. Strange and tragic things begin to happen in the small town of Hallowell, Maine: residents come down with an unexplainable 'illness' and some disappear. In the midst of everything, Isaac Mayfair is adamant about keeping Adria safe, even from her sister whom he has warned her to stay away from. As unspeakable secrets unfold all around Adria, impossible choices become hers to bear. Ultimately, no matter what path she takes, her life and the lives of those she loves will be in peril. As she learns about the werewolf world she also learns why her place in it will change the destinies of many.
Purchase Link: Amazon

I had completely forgotten about this novel. It was a recommendation to me on Goodreads.com and I purchased a copy from Amazon in March of 2012 with full intentions of reading it asap! But it ended up lying forgotten in my Kindle as so many of the books in my wish list. Which is why I LOVE this meme!!!!

If you are joining in the meme this month please feel free to leave your link in the comments. I will be sure to pop in to see what random read you got for the month!

Happy Reading everyone!
