Review of Escape, by Kenya Wright

Escape (Vampire King, #1)

Book Blurb: A domina’s only purpose in life was to birth vampire children for the Quiet King. Any human woman with the domina gene spent their lives in the castle under strict rules and the guards’ watchful eyes. Brie has been a domina for two years. After witnessing the slaughter of babies, she plans to escape and seeks help from Samuel, a vampire known for aiding many out of slavery.

However, Samuel has only one policy. He won’t help dominas escape the king. The penalty is too high and their blood triggers powers in him that he doesn’t want released. So Brie is forced to lie about being a domina and Samuel is lured in by her blood. Something emerges within them that they can’t deny, overwhelming their every cell and igniting an all-consuming hunger that neither can flee.

When I saw the super sexy cover of Kenya's novella, it was game on. I knew from the cover alone I was in for another heart palpitating steamy novel from this author, and the book blurb just added the bonus of looking forward to a pretty fresh plot.

What I enjoy about Kenya's writing is how well she can world build. This novella is no exception.  In 127 pages, she was able to bring me fully into this world where vampires are the norm. A king rules them all, and procreates with females that carry a certain gene, making it possible to conceive vampire children. This king doesn't sound all that attractive, physically or emotionally. In fact, he is quite paranoid, and has all male babies killed so there is no threat to him keeping his throne. Pretty vile dude.

Brie is one such female with the gene, and understandably, wants to get the heck out of the castle. With a little help from the inside, she is taken to Samuel and an escape is planned. But once he discovers that she is a domina, he is not so thrilled with helping her anymore. However, there is an attraction and a pull that neither of them can deny, and becomes the key to who Samuel really is.

Since meeting Kenya Wright through Goodreads.com, I have been on a pretty steady diet of her novels.  I want to thank Kenya for her continuous generosity in providing me with a free ecopy of her novels for review. I have yet to be even remotely disappointed reading one of her books. They are satisfyingly sexy and steamy, and there is no doubt that she will continue to have much success with her writing.

'Escape' is no exception on the steam meter. This novella is jam packed with a sexy hunk, an endearing and brave heroine, and a plot line that was exciting and riveting.  It was, yet again, a hard one to put down. Pour yourself a glass of wine, light a scented candle, and curl up with your very own copy of 'Escape'. If you enjoy Paranormal Romance, this is definitely a successful start to another exciting series by this author.

About the Author:
(pic & bio from Goodreads.com)

Kenya Wright always knew she would be famous since the ripe old age of six when she sang the Michael Jackson thriller song in her bathroom mirror. She has tried her hand at many things from enlisting in the Navy for six years as a Persian-Farsi linguist to being a nude model at an art university.

However, writing has been the only constant love in her life. Will she succeed? Of course.

For she has been coined The Urban Fantasy Queen, the Super Iconic Writer of this Age, The Lyrical Genius of Our Generation. Granted, these are all terms coined by her, within the private walls of her bathroom as she still sings the Michael Jackson thriller song.

Kenya Wright currently resides in Miami with her three amazing, overactive children, a supportive, gorgeous husband, and three cool black cats that refuse to stop sleeping on Kenya’s head at night.
